Feingold Going South

Here's a cure for the red state blues.

Feingold's Alabama travel plans began with a return to Greenville, the dateline of a political column he wrote in December arguing that the so-called red state voters are distracted by social issues such as abortion and homosexuality and, if they focused on the economy and health care, they would be more likely to support Democrats.

Hmm (none / 0)

Maybe Russ is trying to make friends with Southern Democrats to prove that a Jewish Dem. can play in the red states and that he won't be a liability in 2008.

Jews can win in Kentucky.  Jerry Abramson.  Jonathan Miller (who has endorsed Evan Bayh prematurely).

The difficulty is in a proving that progressives are are electable in the South.  I believe they are more electable than anyone suspects.

Russ the Reformer (none / 0)

Despite some problems with McCain-Feingold, most American's view the big issue of "campaign finance" as important and Russ can carry the "reformer" label, which is something many Senators can't do.  Interesting trip indeed.

So, it's pretty obvious he's running.  Good.

I am so happy that we will have someone from the Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party running for POTUS in 2008.  He has no dirt on him, and has stood consistently on the issues since he was elected to the Senate in 1992.  L'Chaim!!!
